Electrical safety certification for products sold in Argentina
Argentina's electrical safety certification is the conformity assessment required by Res. (SIyC) 16/2025 for power supplies, chargers, household appliances, lighting and electronics operating between 50 and 1,000 V AC or 75 and 1,500 V DC. It applies to manufacturers and importers: each model needs a product certificate from a valid certification body, a Declaration of Conformity (DJC) and the conformity mark with a QR code before sale. It is the approval that lets your product be marketed and stay on the Argentine market.

Why it is mandatory
Res. (SIyC) 16/2025 makes manufacturers and importers responsible for electrical safety through a DJC and a product certification. It is not a border check: customs was released from this control (Res. 237/2024, art. 6). Compliance is tested on the market, every day the product is on sale.
The DJC and its evidence must be kept for ten years after placing on the market (Disp. DNRT 1/2024) and can be requested at any time through TAD, the government's online filing platform. Your buyer will ask you for certificates and test reports before ordering, and may need them again years later.

- Disp. (DNRT) 1/2024: DJC content, importer responsibilities, ten-year retention, marking design and 10 business days to answer requests.
- Res. (SIyC) 26/2025: Extended to 01/10/2025 the date from which the conformity mark of Res. 237/2024 is mandatory.
- Res. (SIyC) 56/2026: Market surveillance protocol (Official Gazette 09/03/2026) and reimbursement of testing costs for non-compliant results.
- Dec. 892/2025: Recognition of foreign certificates and tests to prove technical requirements, in force since 15/02/2026.
Products covered
Annex II of Res. 16/2025 covers four appendices, with reference IEC, EN or IRAM standards:
- Power supplies and chargers, including chargers for tools, scooters and electric road vehicles; transformers and UPS units.
- Household appliances in the IEC 60335 series: irons, washing machines, dishwashers, cookers, heaters, air conditioners, fryers and more.
- Lighting: luminaires, lamps, ballasts and drivers.
- Electronics, audio, video, office and IT equipment, point-of-sale terminals, scales, laboratory equipment and adapters.
- Excluded, among others: products for vehicles, vessels or aircraft, medical products and products for explosive atmospheres.
- Plugs, sockets, switches and cables follow construction materials certification.
Requirements and documents
For each model or family, before sale. Most of it comes from you, the manufacturer:
- A valid product certificate from a body accredited by OAA (Argentina's accreditation body), a foreign body under OAA's multilateral agreements, or the IECEE CB Scheme, among other routes in Res. 237/2024.
- Accredited laboratory test reports backing the certificate.
- A Declaration of Conformity (DJC) in Spanish (Disp. DNRT 1/2024), signed by the manufacturer or the importer; a foreign signatory needs an authorized representative in Argentina.
- The conformity mark: AR mark plus a QR code linking to the DJC and certificate, mandatory since 1 October 2025.
- A packaging and web warning when the plug is not standardized to IRAM 2073 or IRAM 2063.
- A DJC copy for distributors and retailers, who must hold it to sell.
- Refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, lamps and TVs also need energy efficiency labeling.
Official fees and timing
| Concept | Amount | Valid | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filing with the National Directorate of Technical Regulations (DNRT) via TAD (DJC and requested documents) | Sin tasa (gratuito) | 2026 | Ficha oficial «Garantizar la calidad y seguridad en equipos eléctricos y máquinas» (argentina.gob.ar) |
The State charges nothing for this procedure. Certification and testing are charged by the certification body or laboratory: they are private costs, not official fees, and are quoted separately, as are our fees.
Estimated timing
About 30 days of testing + 3 days for the certificate. With a valid foreign certificate, it is solved with the DJC and adds no delay.
Depends on: If the manufacturer holds a foreign certificate that can be recognized (Dec. 892/2025), the Declaration of Conformity is enough. Otherwise timing depends on the lab and the number of models.

How we handle it remotely
Product scoping
You or your buyer send the datasheet, photos and voltage. We confirm scope, appendix and any spare parts exemption.
Document review
We check whether your certificates and CB reports work as they are or what is missing.
Certification
We coordinate testing with the certification body and, where applicable, the extension of your certificate to the importer's name.
DJC and marking
We draft the DJC, set up the QR page and deliver the mark artwork for your production line.
File and surveillance
Your buyer receives a ten-year digital file, and we give notice before each surveillance or expiry.
Risks of not having it
- A document request through TAD with 10 business days to answer, followed by sanction proceedings if the DJC and certificate are missing (Disp. DNRT 1/2024).
- Sanctions under Consumer Protection Law 24.240 and Fair Trade Decree 274/2019 (Res. 16/2025, art. 6).
- Reimbursement of sampling and testing costs after a non-compliant surveillance test (Res. 56/2026).
- Random risk-based border checks (Res. 237/2024, point 5), and retailers that refuse goods without a DJC.
15+ years with Argentine agencies
We have handled electrical safety files for more than 15 years and lived through the whole regime change, from certification under Res. 169/2018 to Res. 16/2025 with its declaration of conformity, appendices and certificate validity by product family. Before filing, we place your product in the right appendix, check that the certificate or test report covers the exact model you will sell, and keep the file ready for a DNRT request within 10 business days.
Frequently asked questions
How long is an electrical safety certificate valid in Argentina?
Two years from issue for power supplies and chargers, household appliances and lighting. For electronics, audio and video, including office equipment, it is four years. After that period the certificate remains valid if the certification body issues the surveillance record; otherwise a new certificate is needed before sales continue.
Is my CB Scheme certificate accepted?
Res. 16/2025 accepts certificates issued within the IECEE CB Scheme and certificates from foreign bodies accredited under the agreements signed by OAA. A manufacturer's certificate can be extended or assigned to the importer's name with a certified signature. What is not enough is a report without accreditation or a self-declaration by the manufacturer.
Does the DJC have to be filed before the product is sold?
No. The Declaration of Conformity is not registered: it is drawn up, signed, linked through the QR code and copied to distributors. It is submitted through TAD only when the National Directorate of Technical Regulations requests it, with 10 business days to respond.
What about stock that entered with the previous safety mark?
Products manufactured or imported before 1 October 2025 can be sold with the previous safety mark if the entry date is proven with an invoice or customs documents, according to the official marking guidance. Anything that entered later must carry the new AR mark with QR code.
Do electrical spare parts and components need a certificate?
If they are built into a certified end product, or are spare parts ordered by the equipment manufacturer, they are exempt from certification and marking: the DJC and the end product's certificate suffice, stated in the customs declaration. Sold separately, they must be certified like any covered product.
